Adyar Anandabhavan - Velachery

Heaven in Velachery!

After few months m back home to velachery, the place looked all the same and familiar, nostalgic! But wait whats this refreshingly new place thats popped up rite after i left! Looks totally inviting, colorful and i shud say a yummy ambiance. You cant pass by the place without stepping in even if ur in a real hurry!

Attractive as it looks, the place is really crowded and has self service so u need real patience. But it doesnt actually get on ur nerves like many other places, atleast not on a weekday that i went on. The best part is that you can eat all ur heart and u still feel like ur paying nothin! There is so much variety and innovative items that u get so greedy and want to try every damn thing and theres nothing that stops you, not even price since i ordered almost 6 to 7 items (u shudve seen the look on my neiboring tables :D) and it costed me some 150 bucks! :P

But i really felt like i was cheating them wen i had a bite of each of those! it was taste of heaven, everything was absolutely delicious and am using that for a loss of a better word to describe! Lemme see, paratta - soft and crisp typical south indian style, sweet bun - totally innovaitve and yummy sweet, vada/bondo - yummy/yummy, mini kozhakatais! - reminded me of those made by my granny wen i was a kid (havent seen em ever in any other restaurant), the tomato chutney that comes with it was awesome too! Butterscotch milkshake and black current icecream were rich and filling!

Ambiance - 4/5
Food - 5/5
Service - 3.5/5
Price - With 200 bucks a couple can eat their heart out!
Will i go back there again? - Ofcourse a zillion times n try out every one of the item on the menu

Cream Centre - R. A. Puram

Sizzling Expensive But Totally Worth It

Cream centre is a foodie superhit in Chennai. They are known for their chole bhatura and sizzlers ofcourse! Best place for sizzlers in Chennai, wins hands down! Many wannabes like Bombay Blue and New Yorker don even stand a chance near Cream Centre!

But how do people get to this place? It is not quite visible from the main road and anyone could easily miss it, unless they specifically go looking for it with directions, in that regard, its awesome that this place is so popular!

The restaurant serves good Mexican food (but dont expect the waiter to pronounce it rite for you, we sell them we dono how to call them tho!). The nachos are good and the best part is the drinks, they are absolutely incredible. We tried all possible sizzlers and they were served so well and appetizing to even look at. The sizzling brownie from Cream Centre is a legend!

Ambiance - 5/5
Food - 5/5
Service - 4/5
Price - Close to 1000 bucks for a couple including (non-alcoholic) drinks and desserts
Will i go back again? - Yes, a place to b for my birthday!

Sri Krishna Sweets - Ashok Nagar

Always crowded!

The place has more than jus mysurpas, the mini-jangris are a big hit here but b ready to wait in a big queue if u wanna get a taste of it. They also have snacks and stuff made in counters makin the place all attractive and happening.

They cud do more organization tho, it is kinda tiring to stand in one queue to get the bill and another to get the sweets, etc. Some people jus arent so desperate to get those sweet, but looks like some people just are!

Ambiance - 3/5
Food - 4/5
Service - 2/5
Price - Depends on what and how much ur greedy for :D
Will i go back again? - There are easier options in the area now, so m thinkin twice!

Grains of Paradise - R.A. Puram

Average fare

Nothin special about the place, looks neat fine-dining, nothin innovative about hte ambiance, service is ok, buffet at 199 seems cheaper wen compared to the 150 to 200 bucks costing entrees. The soup was average, starters were the bet part, sesame seeds on the potato balls were great along with the kebabs. Both the roti and the naan looked ans tasted alike, the rice was avergae and hte gravies were run-of-the-mill nothin to delight the taste buds. Dessert was mint icecream, which was good surprisingly and there was also another dessert which wasnt worth remembering.

Ambiance - 3/5
Food - 3/5
Service - 3/5
Price - around 500 bucks for a couple
WIll i go back again? - i have better options and a lot more to explore!

Bella Ciao - Nungambakkam

All that glitters is not gold

If you ve been to Bella Ciao in Kottivakam, do not have too much expectation from this place. The ambiance is awesome, in fact even better.than the kottivakam one, with artificial waterfalls and romantic lighting, great to c amidst buzzling nungambakkam traffic.

It all stops there, the service is pathetic. The waiters do have an attitude problem. You won c any crowd here, one - cos its over expensive, two - cos the food is horrible, and three - m sure is cos of the waiters! The so-called lasagne we ordered was inedible and was priced ridiculously. That was sample enough for us to decide not to order anymore.

Ambiance - 4/5
Food - 1/5
Service - 2/5
Price - Around 800 bucks for a couple
Will i go back again? - I don think so, there is always kottivakkam to go to!

u kno it hurts a lot to order something that expensive and leave it untouched on the table while you leave. But trust me, you dont have a choice!

Nalas Appa Kadai - Velachery

Unexpectedly great service

The place looks stingyly small from outside, sticking between a few stores at the Vijayanagar terminus and the name is definitely not inviting enough for a lone female diner, esp wen u see lots of men crowd hanging around the place. The first time i went in, they made me share a table with a guy who scared me with his looks and the way he looks at me and i had to rush out n decidedly never to step in here alone..

This time i was really hungry and wanted to try out the appams here as recommended by many. The place is almost always crowded and u have to b ready to share tables. This time i politely told the lady host that i need a table alone or share with another female only. Arrangements were made immediately with a smile.

The ambiance is good, the place can be made bigger for the amount of crowd it attracts. The service is professional. The items on the menu are mostly non-vegetarian as expected but there were many eggetarian options for egg-addicts like me. But then there was a prob, placing an order for a gravy just to have one egg masala appam felt like a waste of money. There were combo offers but they provided only normal appams. Now i wanted an egg masala appam only!!! When i requested for it the waiter made a special combo for me, which was really helpful and pleasing.

The open kitchen for appams is another plus point, its so appetising and tempting when u c the appams being made and taken out to tables! Comin to the best part, the food tastes yummy too! The egg masala appam with veg chettinad gravy (combo!!!!) was great and filling. the orange juice was chilling cold to beat the heat outside and made with less-sugar as per my request unlike many restaurants who turn a deaf ear to that request everytime i do! But yea the juices are a bit exp, its almost 40 bucks for an orange juice.

Ambiance - 3/5
Food - 4/5
Service - 4/5
Price - Around 250 to 300 bucks for a couple
Will i go back? - Yes definitely, to try out the other variety of appams on the menu.
